Legend of the Selkie

Selkies are a legend of the Scottish and Irish coasts, they are one of the faeries of the area who appear to humans as seals.  They swim the coves watching the shore with their very intelligent eyes.  When the moon is in full during summer solstice, they come ashore, take off and hide their sealskins, then dance by the light of the moon.  They are said to be very alluring to humans with white skin and beautiful, odd-colored eyes.
If a human can find the hidden sealskin of their chosen faerie and hide it, the selkie will stay on land.  They make wonderful, companionable mates, very good parents, sweet-tempered, gentle, and unusually talented musically.  But they always have a melancholy spirit, longing to return to the sea.  If they ever find their hidden sealskin, they will immediately change into a seal and go back to the water, where they are often seen swimming close to the shore to watch their families.

My Meowmie named me Selkie because of my sad-looking golden eyes.  I am also very shy and love music.  Visit more of my site where it tells all about me and how I came to live in my home.  This Plain Jane must have been very alluring to my Meowmie!
